Richard Mountjoy for U.S. Senator


Richard Mountjoy

Senator Richard Mountjoy was elected to the Assembly in 1978, where he served until January 24, 1995. He was elected simultaneously to the Assembly and also to the Senate in a Special Election in November of 1994. Senator Mountjoy was sworn into the Senate on January 24, 1995 where he served until term limits forced his retirement in December of 2000.

Senator Mountjoy is a native Californian. He was born in Los Angeles and educated in the Arcadia and Monrovia public schools. Since his school days, Dick has worked in the construction business and has built a thriving general contracting company based in Monrovia. He is a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Senator Mountjoy's accomplishments in the Legislature include: working with 4000 small businesses in California to stop the Workers' Comp fraud and reform the Workers' Comp system. In 1993, he authored Proposition 187 to stop giving benefits to illegal aliens; and in 1998, he brought the issue of MTBE, the poisenoness gas additive to the forefront and was successful in getting the Governor to set a date to remove it from the gasoline.
